Hello, children! How are you?

On 20th June, we celebrated the anniversary of Manuel Belgrano’s death.

What do you know about Manuel Belgrano? Let’s put these important events from his life in the correct order.

1. Manuel José Joaquín del Corazón de Jesús Belgrano is born in Buenos Aires on 3rd June, 1770.

__ On 25th July, 1816, Congress declares the flag as a national symbol to be used in the armies, ships, and fortresses.

__ In 1806, he defends his lands during the English Invasions.

__ He plays an important role in May Week and becomes vocal of the first local government known as Primera Junta.

__ When he is 16, he goes to Spain to study law. He becomes a lawyer in 1793. He shows interest in political economy.

__ In 1810, he founds and directs the newspaper “Correo de comercio”, which inspires ideas of liberty in the people.

__ Between 1810 and 1813, he makes military expeditions to Paraguay, the Banda Oriental, and Alto Perú.

__ He studies at “Real Colegio de San Carlos”, where he is one of the best students of his class.

__ In 1812, he proposes that patriot soldiers use a cockade to distinguish themselves from Spanish soldiers. On 27th February, he raises the national flag for the first time.

__ In 1816, he works in the “Congreso de Tucumán” for the Declaration of Independence.

__ Back in Buenos Aires, he becomes Secretary of the Consulate of Commerce. He founds a drawing school and a nautical school, and he develops agriculture and commerce.

__ In 1819, he resigns from office because of health problems. He dies in Buenos Aires on 20th June, 1820.
